The main differentiating factor between these choices is the source of milk. Yak ghee, Gir Cow ghee, Himalayan Cow ghee are few of the variants that we come across.

A2 Badri Cow Ghee is one of the variants of the ghee that holds several health benefits. So let’s have a look at what A2 Badri Cow Ghee is and how is it beneficial for our health.

Badri Cow And Its Milk

Also referred to as the Red Hill Cattle, Badri Cows are a pure-bred desi cattle breed. They are found in the hilly districts of Almora and Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand and hence are referred to as the “Pahadi” cows. Badri Cow is one of the few breeds that is suited for high-altitude topography.

Long legs, tucked up udder and a prominent hump are some of the distinctive characteristics of the Badri cow. Along with serving the purpose of milking, they are also ideal for ploughing and carting. This native cow breed requires minimal care and is comparatively more disease resistant than the other breeds. The Badri Cow’s contribution towards the economy is crucial as well, as it can be easily reared in areas where it is difficult to raise other cow breeds.

Badri cows produce high-quality A2 milk as they freely graze on shrubs and herbs that are high in medicinal value. The milk that is procured from them is thick and yellow in color. Unlike any other Indian breed, Badri Cows only produce 1 to 3 liters of milk a day.

The Science Behind A2 Milk

How is A2 milk different from regular milk?

The milk that we buy on a regular basis is composed of A1 beta-casein proteins and therefore, is referred to as A1 milk. A2 milk, on the other hand, can only be obtained from indigenous, native cow breeds and lacks the A1 beta-casein proteins. A2 milk is considered to be superior to any other variety of milk being sold in the market in today’s world. Cows breeds like Gir and Badri produce A2 milk.

How does it make a difference?

Studies have shown that the consumption of A1 milk produces a peptide called beta-casomorphin-7(BCM-7), which our bodies cannot digest. The presence of BCM-7 in our body can cause problems like indigestion, diabetes and several other diseases.

A2 milk, on the other hand, contains an amino acid called Proline, which prevents the production of BCM-7 in our body. Hence, it is both safer and easier to digest.

Historically, cows produced only A2 milk. It was due to human intervention and domestication that with time, cows developed A1 protein in their milk.

Benefits of A2 milk

  • The fat content in A2 milk is 4.8% whereas regular milk fat percentage accounts for up to 3.6%. The extra amount of fat present in this milk is actually healthy as it occurs naturally and is also able to support our cell structures. If you’re looking for sources of good fat, Badri cow ghee is your solution.
  • A2 milk is easy to digest because of the absence of BCM-7.
  • The absence of BCM-7 in A2 milk means dodging several problems like heart disease and type 1 diabetes.

Why Badri Cow Ghee?

  • Improves Body Resistance – Badri cow ghee is rich in antioxidants and also contains Butyric acid. Antioxidants help the body absorb minerals and vitamins better. Butyric acid increases the production of killer T cells, which fights against allergens in our body. Ultimately, both these factors contribute towards strengthening immunity.
  • Prevents Cardiovascular Diseases – The presence of Omega 3 fatty acids in A2 cow ghee is truly beneficial for our heart. These acids reduce fat cells and triglycerides, excess of which can cause several heart-related issues. They keep the formation of harmful blood clots in check and also help reduce inflammation.
  • Helps Burn Fat Cells – Ghee made from the milk of cows that are grass-fed contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid i.e. CLA is a fatty acid that is known to protect your body against several conditions like diabetes and artery plaque. It defends your body from carcinogens, which are substances that promote the formation of cancer in your body. Since CLA is a naturally occurring fatty acid, it carries fat-burning properties i.e it makes the body disburse energy faster, thus enabling the fat to get burned quickly.
  • Makes Bones Stronger – A2 Badri cow ghee contains vitamin K2. This vitamin ensures the deposition of calcium in the right places in our body. This helps in strengthening our bones and teeth. It also helps in preventing the calcification of soft tissues, which is a major reason behind several degenerative diseases.
  • Accelerates Muscle Growth – Badri cow ghee is rich in both vitamin A and E. Vitamin A aids glycogen production and protein synthesis, and vitamin E obstructs the effect of free radicals that are capable of hampering muscle growth. All in all, both these vitamins are essential for the growth of muscles in our body.
  • Helps Soothe Inflammation: The presence of Butyrate and fatty acids in Badri cow ghee makes it a good cure for inflammation. This is because both these acids tend to have a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Moisturizer for Dry Skin And Hair:  The rich and healthy fatty acids found in ghee are known for their nourishing properties. Applying ghee directly to the scalp and skin can improve their texture and also make them smoother.

Ghee goes back to the ancient traditions of the Ayurveda discipline. Along with being a source of good cholesterol and both vitamin K and E, it also has an incredible flavor. Often marketers, position their variants of ghee as “Pure Desi Cow Ghee”, which is not what they truly sell. Hence, it is crucial for us, as consumers to be aware of the properties that make any ghee authentic.

Finding a source of ghee that is both high quality and authentic is always worth the effort. So next time you are picking up a ghee jar to delight your senses and nurture your health, Badri Cow Ghee will be a great option for you.
