Keeping yourself warm from within is as important as protecting yourself externally. There are plenty of food items, whose consumption can provide your body with the heat that you need to survive this cold.

Turmeric: Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant that generates heat in your body upon consumption. Amongst the several ways of consuming turmeric, the most efficient would be to add a pinch of it in your glass of warm milk.

Pepper: Black pepper has been known for medicinal properties throughout the world of Ayurveda and medical science. You can easily incorporate honey in your everyday winter diet by swapping it with regular sugar in your tea, cakes, etc. Since raw honey contains invert sugar (a mixture of glucose and fructose), which can be easily digested, its consumption is regarded to be way healthier than regular sugar.

Ginger: Ginger contains several antioxidants that help you build strong immunity. When consumed in small amounts every day, it keeps your body warm and also helps in curing mild fevers, common cold, cough, ulcers and also aids your body in the digestion process.

Here is an age-old effective remedy for colds and clogged nose. Mix 1 tbsp of lemon juice with half tsp of ginger juice and half tsp of honey. Heat it up for a minute and then let it cool down a bit. Take this concoction and you’ll immediately notice relief from cold.

Ghee: In order to produce heat, your body needs to burn fat, and what better option than the healthiest and easy to digest desi ghee? Consumption of cow ghee during winters not only provides your body with warmth from within, but the short-chain fatty acids present in it, give you the energy boost you need to get through the chilly winter days, and they also act as a great antimicrobial and antifungal substance. Pure ghee is rich in antioxidants and aids the absorption of vitamins and minerals in your body.

Along with the various benefits that desi ghee has, it is also considered effective in clearing clogged nose and soothing cold. It is advised to take in ghee with pepper to relieve cough and cold during winter. Besides, the consumption of cow ghee also helps in treating migraines, headaches, and cervical spondylosis. Drinking ghee with warm milk is also said to relieve constipation effectively and gently. Ghee also provides you immunity from common winter diseases.

Eggs: Eggs are very rich in protein content; a medium-sized egg has about 6 grams of protein in it. Your body uses proteins to produce antibodies that play a crucial role in fighting foreign bodies, and also help prevent infections. Zinc present in eggs also helps you recover from common winter illnesses like the flu or cold. Thus, consuming eggs during winter will not only boost your energy and strengthen your immunity but will also keep you shielded from the risk of several diseases and infections.

Garlic: Sulphur present in garlic triggers certain types of white blood cells in your body that fight against viruses that can cause common flu and cold. Garlic also contains several components that help your body fight germs and help boost immunity. Tulsi: The holy basil is capable of curing several fevers and ailments. It is rich in minerals like Calcium, Zinc, and Iron, and vitamins A and C. Tulsi holds anti-infective and anti-asthmatic properties that play a crucial role in fighting cold-related diseases like cold, cough, pneumonia, sinusitis and several other respiratory disorders. You can take tulsi with pepper, raw honey, and ginger, to build stronger immunity and also relieve cold and cough.

Nuts: Nuts are considered to be an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Nuts are warm in nature, and hence are capable of providing your body with warmth during this cold season. Nuts are widely incorporated in various kinds of bars and sweets during winters. Another way people tend to consume nuts during winter is by powdering them, and adding them to their milk.

Sesame or Til: Sesame is high in its good-fat content, and thus gives your body the warmth you need to resist the freezing winters. You can consume til by making ladoos or candy bars with it.
